Litsea Cubeba
Sharp, Lemony, Aldehydic, Grassy
Litsea Cubeba has a very fresh, sweet, and intense lemon scent, and is often used as a substitute for lemon oil in fragrance compositions. While lemon oil typically appears as a top note and fades quickly,
Litsea Cubeba begins to reveal its lemony character in the heart notes of a fragrance.
It also has better oxidative stability compared to other citrus oils.
Due to the high cost and IFRA restrictions of lemon verbena oil, Litsea Cubeba is also a practical alternative for reproducing verbena-like notes. Its main component, Citral, makes up approximately 75–80% of the oil.
It is frequently used in soap fragrances and in violet-themed perfumes.
It blends well with orange, lemon, violet, petitgrain, rosemary, and lavender.
Characteristics of CW Litsea Cubeba Natural Essential Oil
Litsea Cubeba, also known by its botanical name May Chang, is a small tree that grows up to 12 meters tall in mountainous regions.
It belongs to the Lauraceae family, along with plants like cinnamon, bay leaf (laurel leaf), and rosewood.
From July to September each year, its small, fragrant fruits are harvested and steam-distilled to obtain the essential oil.
Although the leaves can also be used for distillation, their oil yield is very low, so the fruits are primarily used.
